Saving everyone...
Saving Mum book - Secrets, tricks, recipes and ideas from modern Australian mums.

This is a thoughtfully assembled collection of tips, ideas, recipes and home-spun wisdom which deserves to become a classic reference in most family kitchens.

It offers the sort of kind, sensible and non-judgmental advice that the best of mothers and grandmothers should (in an ideal world) be able to pass on to their families.  I especially loved the formulas for eco-friendly home-made cleaning solutions and detergents.

Reading this book equates to spending an afternoon with a couple of good friends and then coming home filled with enthusiasm and fresh ideas for living life.  The only quibble I have is with the title.  Saving Mum does indeed save mum but actually saves dad, saves money, saves sanity and saves the environment too!

Carolyn (mother of 2)

A great gift idea for new mums!

Thanks Amy & Tiana for publishing this collection of terrific time-saving, money-saving, and environment-saving ideas.

The Saving Mum book really lives up to it's name. As a step-mum of 2, and now expecting my first child, my home-life is about to get even busier! I'm looking forward to making the most of this handy resource of good old-fashioned wisdom.

The collective wisdom of all those sensible, sturdy mothers who have gone before us…

Saving Mum is an easy-to-use book (or should I say compendium) that taps into the collective wisdom of all those sensible, sturdy mothers who have gone before us. Flicking through the 'green living' section I was reminded of the many conversations between mum and my grandmother where invaluable antidotes and tidbits where exchanged.

The book cleverly brings together insightful information about keeping house and caring for kids with modern day wisdom from many busy Australian parents. Topics covered in the book include: easy green cleaning, saving with a growing family, creative play, lunchbox ideas and also boasts a great recipe section. The book is basically a collation of the best ideas generated through the Saving Mum community and includes over 800 ways to save time and money with an emphasis on minimising your family's carbon footprint on the earth.

The tip I am most grateful for at the moment is the one about cleaning 'sipper cup straws'. My children love having their warm chocolate milk of a night in their sippy cups. No matter how many times I run those straws through the dishwasher I can never seem to get all the gunk out. Thanks to Valda (a Saving Mum member) I now have a solution - good old fashioned pipe cleaners. You just dip the pipe cleaner in washing detergent and warm water and then clean inside the straw. Voila -  gunk free straws!

You will also be amazed with what you can achieve with a little white vinegar, bi-carb soda and lemon juice. But rather than go into it here I suggest you get yourself a copy of Saving Mum.

Now I know…

As I read Saving Mum I was reminded of my childhood − homemade playdough, homemade treats, Saturday morning chores, mud pies, leftovers on Sunday night, doll houses built out of cardboard, recycled milk bottles and simple home remedies.

I have often wondered how my mother succeeded in making ends meet on a tight budget with six children. Now I know. Thank you Saving Mum for opening a door to the basic ideas that my generation has somehow forgotten.
